General FAQs

Can I use JMP software to open data from Excel?

Yes. With Release 5.1, you can directly import Excel files on both Macintosh and Windows without using ODBC.

For releases prior to 5.1, use the methods described below.

On Windows, you must have an Excel ODBC driver installed on your system in order to open Excel files. For information on how to setup an ODBC driver for use with JMP, refer to JMP Note 002966.

On the Macintosh, you will need to save the Excel file as a delimited text file or copy then paste the data into JMP. To import the text file into JMP, do the following:

  1. Select Open from the File menu.
  2. Select Text Documents for the Show field.
  3. Select Text Data or Text Data with Preview for the Open As field. If you choose Text Data, the options specified in the Import/Export preferences will be used to import the data. If you choose Text Data with Preview, you can change the import options and preview how the data will be imported.
